Fair recap and shoe shopping

Our trip to the State Fair yesterday was, unfortunately, not photographically documented because of technical difficulties. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

We were disappointed not to find any of the more exotic fair foods on sale there–deep-fried Twinkies and Oreos were plentiful but are already passé. We did try a Krispy Kreme burger, which was a tiny cheeseburger on a Krispy Kreme glazed donut “bun.” It amounted to all of six bites shared between me and my niece. We both liked it quite a lot more than we expected to, and decided that would be our one true indulgence for the day (my sister declined a taste). Otherwise, we made reasonably healthy (for the fair) food choices: chicken shawarma and lemonade for lunch, a scone with jam for me and a chocolate-dipped frozen banana for mom and daughter for dessert, snow cones and kettle corn for all of us to finish out the day. We passed on the rides and didn’t throw our money away on the carnival, yet still had a great time taking it all in.

Today we did a bit of back-to-school shopping for the girl, and ran across these absolutely amazing shoes (boots? shoots?) at Target:

I’ll send 10 free internets to the first person who can name an appropriate occasion upon which to wear these. At least they’re (somewhat) cuter than these. And they’re real, not ‘shopped.

Not rugged enough for hiking, not dainty enough for dancing … those heels might be a great weapon against bears when you’re out in the woods, though, I dunno. What do you wear them with, skinny jeans and a buffalo-plaid shirt? Fortunately, my niece has better taste in footwear and passed these right by.
