It’s all in my head

Periodically my head starts to spin, or at least that’s what it feels like, and tonight it’s spinning pretty hard. I have BPPV, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which is an intermittent and generally harmless inner-ear disturbance that messes with my balance. Usually my episodes are mild and I just feel headachy and uncomfortable, although I had it so bad one time that I threw up every 30 minutes for an entire day and was unable to leave the house. It comes on suddenly with a certain motion of my head and is impossible to predict. The only good things about it are that it isn’t contagious and it usually doesn’t last very long. On the down side, I don’t feel safe to drive, eating is out of the question, and there’s no remedy I can take to relieve the symptoms.

BPPV supposedly can be treated with certain body and head movements, but I’ve never tried them myself. It goes away eventually and the less I move my head while I have it, the more comfortable I am.

Right now it is causing an intense headache and nausea. Looking at scrolling text on a computer screen makes my eyeballs jump and my stomach lurch, so this is about as much typing as I can do tonight. I’m sure by tomorrow I’ll be fine again though. Because it really is all in my head, right?
